One of the things I look forward to in the Fall is the fashion. I love the heavier fabrics because I’m a bit of a texture junkie. Tweed, velvet, corduroy, and cashmere are all winners in my book! I also enjoy layering pieces and the colors of fall. It’s much easier to find clothes in darker tones, and those look way better on me than pastels! Lo and behold,  Shabby Apple has a fabulous new collection for Fall called Academia, and it’s full of beautiful dresses and skirts with a nerd-chic vibe! I’m in love with this orange skirt with a kick pleat:

Another favorite is this simple ivory skirt. It can be dressed up or down, depending on what you pair with it. Multitasking pieces like this are a staple in my closet.

I really want to add this dress to my closet too. I can totally see myself wearing this on a nice evening out with the Mister. He loves it when I get dolled up for him, and this dress just might compel him to go Salsa dancing with me.

It is abysmally hot here in NC. Today it’s 101° F, and it feels like 110° F with the humidity. I need to wear something with plenty of ventilation. While I love my summer skirts and cotton shirts, sometimes I want the ease of one-piece items. Oh, and short rompers are so not what I need. I wore rompers in the early 90s and have no desire at all to revisit that horrendous trend! I’ll leave it to the current crop of teenagers and 20-somethings who think it’s hip and novel.  No, I think I’ll take this breezy dress from Anthropologie:

I love the color because I think it can ease into Autumn very well. I know it seems too early to be thinking of Fall, but these oppressive heat waves have me dreaming of cooler weather and bright Fall foliage. I can imagine pairing this dress with a cozy Fall jacket or sweater come September or October.

For now, I’ll just enjoy it with my favorite nude wedges from J. Crew. These things have carried me through the Spring and Summer! They may look like a high heel, but they are extremely comfortable.

I think I’ll also break out the straw hat. One can never have enough protection from the sun in the middle of Summer, especially when one is pasty-white and easily freckled. I like the look of pale skin with darker colors, though some may argue such a bright hue calls for a tan.
