Though Hurricane Irene just dumped a good amount of rain on us, we have experienced a significant drought this Summer. Thankfully, I have a rather drought-tolerant yard full of shrubs and perennials which don’t require a lot of water. Still, they do suffer a bit when Mother Nature doesn’t water them enough. I think this is the nicest and only hydrangea bloom I’ve had all year, and my hydrangeas are of the Endless Summer variety!

Normally I cut a few of them and have vases full of fluffy blue balls throughout the house. However, I just can’t bear to cut this one. It’s the only thing in my yard blooming right now! Fall is just around the corner, and it remains to be seen if my Sweet Olive bushes will bloom. I so look forward to their cute white flowers and divine fragrance. I think their odor is my second favorite, right behind the sweet honeysuckle.

I placed a couple of houseplants on my patio so they could get some sun yesterday. When I retrieved them this morning to give them water, one of them had a pretty visitor attached. He was extremely determined to stay on the plant, so he had a brief field trip to the sink.

He’s very pretty and so very fuzzy! If you look at him closely, he looks like a little fluffy yellow chicken:

Imperial Moth - SO FUZZY!

Since he wasn’t interested in budging from his perch on my plant, I returned the plant to the patio. Hopefully, he will fly away this evening. I think they are nocturnal creatures.
