We’ve already had some chilly evenings here in NC, which leads me to believe our Winter might be a tad colder than normal this year. (Hush, Northeners! 40° F is cold to us!) I’ve been thinking of getting a new coat because it seems like some moths have dined on my old one. I also need to get some cedar bars for my closet. Anyway, I’m thinking of trying something different. I usually buy a neutral coat and pair it with a colorful scarf or gloves. However, I think I might enjoy wearing a coat more if it were in a color I love and which flatters me. I tend to look best in jewel tones.

I love this purple coat from J.Crew. Who wouldn’t feel a bit more cheery on a drab winter day when wearing this?

I also love their shorter peacoat in this brilliant shade of peony. I’m not normally drawn to pink, but I think this a deep, rich pink with some blue and purple undertones. It’s not bubblegum or Barbie pink in the least.

Of course, redheads usually look great in green, and this bright green double-cloth coat would highlight my blue-green eyes in the best possible way.

What do you prefer? Do you like your coats to be neutral, or do you like a colorful winter topper?

One of the things I look forward to in the Fall is the fashion. I love the heavier fabrics because I’m a bit of a texture junkie. Tweed, velvet, corduroy, and cashmere are all winners in my book! I also enjoy layering pieces and the colors of fall. It’s much easier to find clothes in darker tones, and those look way better on me than pastels! Lo and behold,  Shabby Apple has a fabulous new collection for Fall called Academia, and it’s full of beautiful dresses and skirts with a nerd-chic vibe! I’m in love with this orange skirt with a kick pleat:

Another favorite is this simple ivory skirt. It can be dressed up or down, depending on what you pair with it. Multitasking pieces like this are a staple in my closet.

I really want to add this dress to my closet too. I can totally see myself wearing this on a nice evening out with the Mister. He loves it when I get dolled up for him, and this dress just might compel him to go Salsa dancing with me.
